Our Granddaughter,
Selina Sofia

Selina is the daughter of Beverly and Rick and sister of Rico.  She is a junior in high schoolOur honor student plays on the varsity golf team, volunteers through the leadership program and church programs, and spent her 16th summer as a volunteer in the Amigos Program in Costa Rica.

Here is what she said about her summer on her Facebook Page:

This summer I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to be a volunteer for Amigos de las Americas in Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica. I created experiences and friends I will never forget. I experienced some really good times and some pretty frustrating moments, but I grew more in two months there than I have in two years at home. Some people think I'm crazy for giving up my whole summer to be there, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

For those of you who don't know, Amigos is a program that focuses on building youth leaders and making every joven(youth) a catalyst for social change. We were stuck in a rural Costa Rica community and expected to lead extracurricular activities with the kids and collaborate with the community to do a community based initiative project. In the special Costa Rica project we also got the opportunity to go to three campamentos in National parks (Tenorio, Rio Macho, and Carara) to work on the trails and bond with Tico (Costa Rican) youth. I highly recommend Amigos to anyone and everyone who is looking for a great volunteer and leadership opportunity.
